After years of extensive scientific research I have come to the conclusion that 2001-03 Acura CL drivers are asshats. At least here in CT it seems every CL I have come across loves to race down the highways like they were rehearsing for a F&F stunt. Just last week I was doing 15 over the posted speed limit and in my rearview some ass with really bright blue headlights comes right up on my ass, swings to pass right decides to swing over yet another lane, then proceeds to cut back across two lanes while cutting me off, I back way off and he goes speeding throughout the rest of traffic it a similarly erratic way. This is probably the 7-8 time a story similar to this has happened since I started driving 6 years go involving a CL.

They are not the biggest asshats here at all. It's a tie between X5 drivers and Audi Q-whatever drivers.

Scion tC driver's are the biggest ass-hats. Apparently they think they're all race-car drivers.

From my personal experience, it's the cars that you would own in mint condition, but they usually aren't. Examples; E46, Mercedes (most models), B5 Audi, Civic SI, Neon SRT-4, STI, WRX, etc etc

"After years of extensive scientific research I have come to the conclusion that 2001-03 Acura CL drivers are asshats." Hey, I resent that statement!

I drive an '01 CL Type S and I am the best driver I know. No accidents, no speeding tickets, ever, and unlike 90% of the drivers on the roads, I actually look to my left for cars when merging onto the highway. I can't tell you how many times I've been nearly run into by idiots with tunnel vision looking straight ahead and blindly entering the right hand lane as they merge onto the highway.

I will admit that, based on my experience on the Acurazine forums, it seems as though a lot CL owners are boy racers who speed everywhere. That being said, most of the CL's I see now a days are owned by women or other people who are driving slow/the speed limit.

I probably should have put the disclaimer that if a fellow oppo-er drives one the asshat designation does not apply to them.

And don't get me wrong I'm sure they are awesome cars but most CL drivers in my area drive like douchebags.

The X5 in particular. The most X5 thing I have ever seen, by far (and this is a story I will repeat until the day I die), was when I saw one parked in the electric car charging space at the Darien Whole Foods with one of the rear doors closed on the power cable so it looked like it was "charging".

Also, "the electric car charging space at the Darien Whole Foods" is the single most Connecticut phrase ever written.

I love the shit out of my car, but I wouldn't call it awesome. The ride is so-so, the stock handling is leany and not especially sharp, the steering feel is vague and requires too much movement with little feeling of "bite" on turn in, the ride height is quite high, the wheels are too narrow, the brakes don't have the best pedal feel (kind of soft, spongy initial feel that hardens up after about a half inch of travel), the engine needs more torque, and the car is too big and heavy at almost 3,500 lbs. F/R weight distribution is poor at 60/40, and thus there's a lot of front end push. It's funny that Car and Driver in this review called it " the finest-handling front-drive road car we've ever tested."

And yet, I absolutely love my car to bits. I upgraded the struts with adjustable Koni Yellows, and coupled with slightly overinflated tires, the turn in and handling feels much sharper, though for some reason these struts bounce like crazy over rhythmic undulations in the pavement (no, my car isn't lowered). I'm sure I could get a lot better responsiveness and turn in feel if I got better tires, but I can't afford any ATM. The engine absolutely wails in this car. It has hands down the best, most awesome induction noise I've ever heard from a V6. It helps that it's relatively quick, too.

I drive a similar car, a 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T coupe, while underpowered for a 3.0L V6 my car only weighs about 3000 pounds so its more than quick enough for daily driving. How do you like the koni's? I need new shocks myself but the only ones I've seen for my car specifically are some KYB gas shocks.

The Konis are definitely stiffer than the stock CL Type S struts, but not a LOT stiffer. My original struts had just over 106,000 miles on them when I replaced them. They had gotten slammy over small and large bumps and probably sagged a bit. They are known for slowly just going bad, instead of an abrupt change. The Koni Yellows are as I said, adjustable. I keep mine on 3/5 (5 being the stiffest), and comparing the ride to the old struts, small bumps, cracks, and potholes are actually slightly smoother. The steering feels sharper and more precise, the car leans MUCH less, and the front and rear ends are quicker to respond to steering inputs. It's an overall sportier feel, but it's not a DRASTIC change. However, as I mentioned, for some reason these are kind of bouncy. I don't know what the problem is, but it's clearly related to the Koni's. There's a highway (35W) that on certain parts has a very rhythmic undulation to it to the point where the car bounces up and down ad nauseum as it goes down the road. It's pretty bad (but only on roads that have this rhythmic undulation problem), and I have no idea what to do about it. Imagine sitting on someone's leg as they bounce it up and down with their foot (like if they're anxious), but slower. I like the struts, and in hindsight, I think I would probably still buy them again, but my friend says he thinks the car is kinda ruined. I'm willing to put up with it for the better ride, and these struts were cheaper than the alternatives from KYB, Monroe, or OEM.

I only wonder if there's a disharmony between the fronts and the back. The backs SHOULD be set on 2/5 but I have no way of knowing, as I didn't do the install, and adjusting those requires removing the rear seat (which I have no clue how to do).
